“The familiarisation program includes some of WA’s most popular destinations such as Broome and the Kimberley, Kununurra and the East Kimberley, the Golden Outback, the Margaret River Region, or Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef.”

The Global STARS conference, organised by Helloworld Ltd, recognises and rewards top selling agents based on sales of Qantas Holidays, Sunlover Holidays, Viva! Holidays and many other products.

Participants attended a workshop, a gala dinner and welcome function in Perth and took part in a Statewide familiarisation program.

Tourism WA Executive Director Strategy, Brand and Marketing Services Louise Scott said the event was an excellent opportunity to showcase extraordinary WA and explain all the changes that are happening around Perth to these important members of the travel industry.

“Some of the best wholesale travel consultants from around Australia and New Zealand will get to see first-hand what WA has on offer which is invaluable information for them to take back to their clients,” Ms Scott said.

“The familiarisation program included some of WA’s most popular destinations such as Broome and the Kimberley, Kununurra and the East Kimberley, the Golden Outback, the Margaret River Region, or Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef.”

Ms Scott said the group would also visit Rottnest Island and have the opportunity to take in all the changes happening around Perth.

“I am certain the participants will leave Perth, well equipped to sell what they have seen to potential visitors - from new accommodation options and tourism infrastructure to vibrant small bars and restaurants and growing arts and culture scene,” she said.

Ms Scott said Tourism WA had a goal to increase tourism spending in WA to $12 billion by 2020.

“That figure currently sits at $10.1 billion,” she said. “We need to get people to visit Perth to help fill hotel rooms, book the restaurants, travel to the regions and attend events at Perth Stadium to help us reach that goal.

“Educating trade on the changes that are happening around Perth is an important part of the strategy that will help us attract more visitors and ultimately reach that 2020 target.”
