STEP BACK IN TIME BED AND BREAKFAST
It is time to travel back 150 years and discover the history of the Washington Hotel (the largest hotel in Australia when it was built in 1874) Originally at the Ravine Lobbs Hole near Kiandra in the Snowy Mountains to serve the Gold miners and later the Copper mines. Amazingly the entire building was moved piece by piece it was pulled apart and transported to The American Yards/fields Gold fields by bullock and cart in 1910 where it lost its identity of being a licensed hotel and became the Humula village general store, haberdashery, bakery, grocer, service station and then in 1960s it was registered as the Humula Post Office after 50 years that closed and it fell into disrepair for the next 8 years. Then Robert and Gail Bought it at Auction.
In November 2021 its new owners Robert and Gail who run the Familclub events business committed to renovate this heritage listed building back to its former glory as a single story Victorian heritage building consisting of 4 bed and breakfast apartments and tea rooms for its guests.
After 7 months a DA changing it from commercial Post Office to Residential was approved but at present it still has to be approved for Bed and Breakfast.
Meanwhile we expect the event industry to take some time to recover from covid19 giving the owners time to do the renovation over the next two or three years whilst organising events and tours for their 21,800 event planning members.
Travelers to Humula will find a Caravan Park next to the hotel and a truffle farm nearby, there's, electronic-biking for both cyclists and handicapped people to enjoy views from the old railway that cannot be seen by road making the rail trail from Rosewood to Tumut a hugely popular attraction in Rosewood where we are the nearest accommodation to the west, or enjoy a trip to historic Tumbarumba, try the wineries, trout fishing, hiking or for more adventurous guests try skiing and tobogganing at Mt Selwyn Ski fields.
Located in the Snowy Valley region you are surrounded by rolling foothills exactly halfway 465km to both Sydney and Melbourne or 230km from Canberra its just an hour to cities of Albury, Wagga, Tumut, Adelong, Gundagai, Jugiong and Holbrook famous for its submarine and many museums like many other country towns that have so much to offer.
STEP BACK IN TIME Bed and Breakfast will offer guests luxury accommodation each with en suites and self contained kitchenettes within a heritage building decorated to suit the age of the building.
