STEP BACK IN TIME AT HUMULA GUEST HOUSE

Join us to discover the history of the Washington Hotel (the largest hotel in Australia when it was built in 1874) Originally at the Ravine Lobbs Hole near Kiandra in the Snowy Mountains to serve the Gold miners and later the Copper mines. When the mines flooded the hotel was repurposed. Amazingly the entire building was moved piece by piece, it was pulled apart and transported to The American Yards/fields Gold fields by bullock and cart in 1910 where it lost its identity of being a licensed hotel and became the Humula village general store, haberdashery, bakery, grocery, a service station for a new invention called petrol engines and then it was the 700 timber mill workers shop in 1960s it was registered as the Humula Post Office. The mill closed the farms became Pine forests after 50 years both the Humula store and post office closed. It fell into disrepair for the next 8 years the floors rotted it was auctioned off for $100k

In November 2021 its new owners Robert and Gail who run the Familclub events business committed to renovate this heritage listed building back to its former glory as a single story Victorian heritage building consisting of a huge residence an antique store and 4  apartments for our guests Family and friends

After 18 months arguing with Wagga Wagga Council we were advised to repair the heritage building to meet council needs we changed it from commercial Post Office back to residential which it had been for over a hundred years this was approved and we moved in. After taking 240 tons of rubbish to the tip the repairs began on 24 rooms creating a residence a shop and gardens
.
